Vitae

Academic Stage

Yang-Lun Liu holds a B.S. degree in System and Naval Mechatronic Engineering from National Cheng-Kung University, as well as M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Power Mechanical Engineering from National Tsing-Hua University, Taiwan, which he received in 2002, 2004, and 2010, respectively. His research interests primarily lie in the areas of solid mechanics, finite element method, and stress/vibrational/thermal analysis of carbon nanotubes. During his studies, he also served as a teaching assistant for courses on the mechanics of materials, finite element method, and optimization of structural design.

Working Stage-ITRI

Following the completion of his Ph.D., he joined the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) as an engineer in 2010. His work at ITRI focused mainly on issues related to robotics, such as analyzing the structure of six-axis force/torque sensors, performing kinematic and static/dynamic calculations of 6-axis A-type and Delta-type robots, and calculating the head injury criterion (HIC) of 6-axis robots. From May to December 2012, he was a visiting researcher at Fraunhofer IPA in Stuttgart, Germany, where he successfully collaborated with researchers/scientists at IPA and initiated a joint project between IPA and ITRI focused on the dipping of electronic components on PCB using a robot.

Later on, Yang-Lun Liu was transferred to the Intelligent Machine Technology Department in Nantou, where he led a project developing intelligent CAM software called iCAM. The software made use of two 3rd party SDKs, including CAD kernel and CAM kernel, and added several functions and values, such as auto-feature recognition, auto-tool selection, and auto-tool path generation. The software could be used by a variety of CAM applications for different user definitions. He also initiated several industrial projects to assist local companies in various fields, including die and mold, shoemaking, PCB manufacturing, machining job shops, and more.

Working Stage-Academic

In February 2023, Yang-Lun Liu obtained the position of assistant professor at the Department of Aerospace and Systems Engineering at Feng-Chia University. He will be teaching courses on finite element method, mechanics of aircraft structures, MATLAB language, introduction to computers, and introduction to Python language. He is also planning to work on several research topics, including the application of CAD/CAE/CAM, computer graphics, customized CAD/CAM/FEM software development, and artificial intelligence.
